Where Should I Install the AirGuard Device?
Installation Guidelines for AirGuard
Proper placement of your AirGuard device ensures it works effectively to clean the air in your home and protects your HVAC system. Here’s how to install it the right way — simply and safely.
Best Places to Install AirGuard
Inside Your HVAC System (Return Duct Only)
If you're installing AirGuard in your ductwork, it must go in the return duct only — this is where air is pulled back into the system for heating or cooling.
đź”’ Do not install in the supply duct — the side that pushes air into your home — as this may damage the unit or HVAC components.
Crawlspace
The crawlspace is an excellent place to install AirGuard, especially if your HVAC system or ductwork runs through it. You can:
Attach it to a floor joist using the included mounting hardware.
Set it on or near the air handler, as long as it's stable and has access to power.
Other Acceptable Indoor Areas
As long as there’s an accessible electrical outlet, these locations are also ideal for AirGuard placement:
- Attics
- Basements
- Interior rooms
- Utility or mechanical rooms
- Any area of concern (e.g., musty storage rooms, pet zones, or home offices)
Avoid Installing in These Areas
Supply Ducts (Blow-out Side)
This side of the HVAC pushes air into your rooms. Installing AirGuard here can reduce system performance and is not recommended.
Outdoor or Damp Areas
AirGuard is designed for indoor use only and must be kept dry.

What Data Can I Track on the App?
You can track live and historical data for:
- Temperature and Humidity
- Predicted Days to Mold Growth
Why Are My Air Quality Readings Changing so Quickly?
AirGuard measures your indoor air in real time and is sensitive to environmental changes. Fluctuations are normal and often caused by:
- Doors or windows opening/closing
- HVAC system cycling
- Weather or humidity changes
- Cooking, cleaning, or aerosol sprays
- Movement of people or pets
- Heat or sunlight near the device
To smooth out the data, check the trend graphs in the Blynk app.
Why Did I Get a Mold DETECTION Alert? What Should I Do?
Alert Message: “Critical Alert: AirGuard has detected a greater than 90% probability of the presence of mold. It is recommended to confirm with a certified inspector.”
What it means:
This means that based on real-time sensor data, your AirGuard unit has identified environmental patterns strongly associated with active mold presence.
What to do:
- Inspect crawl spaces, attics, and heating/air conditioning ductwork and units
- Contact a certified mold inspector for confirmation:
NAMRI National Association of Mold Remediators and Inspectors
IICRC Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification
Why Did I get a Forecasted Mold GROWTH Alert? What Should I Do?
Alert Message: “Critical Alert: Based on environmental conditions, mold may grow within 30–90 days.”
What it means:
This is a predictive alert, meaning your current environmental conditions are ideal for mold to begin growing soon if no action is taken.
What to do:
- Lower indoor/area humidity (below 60%)
- Fix leaks and moisture-prone areas
- Consult a trusted HVAC or crawlspace professional
I Don’t See any Mold — Why Should I Take Action?
Even if mold isn’t visible, AirGuard has detected environmental conditions that are ideal for mold growth within the next 30–90 days.
High humidity, warm temperatures, and poor airflow can cause mold to grow behind walls, in crawlspaces, or inside HVAC systems—places you can’t easily see.
Mold can:
- Trigger asthma, allergies, and respiratory issues
- Grow undetected behind walls or in HVAC systems
- Cause odors and expensive damage
The alerts are your chance to stop mold before it starts. Early action saves money, protects your health, and prevents long-term issues.
The Bottom Line: Prevention is Protection!
Why did I get a Mold DETECTION alert but not a Forecasted Mold GROWTH Alert? What does this mean?
It is possible to receive a mold detection alert, even if the environment is not currently forecasted for mold growth. This usually means mold had already begun growing in hidden areas, like: HVAC coils, ductwork, crawlspace, behind walls or floors.
Even though conditions have improved and mold is not likely to grow further, spores or VOC signatures may still be present from existing, hidden growth.
